Sam Van Kleeck is 20-year-old resident of Stone Ridge New York. He is a 2012 graduate of Rondout Valley High School and is currently a student at SUNY Ulster. As a student at SUNY Ulster, he explored other interests in music and science but was continually drawn to the visual arts. His diverse interest can be seen in his artwork work. His artistic styles lend themselves to different mediums with equal success. From his pen drawings that derive from a lifetime of doodling in school that demonstrate a strong personal expression, to landscapes that capture the beauty and inspiration of the Hudson Valley. In warmer weather you can often find Sam in High Falls or up on the Shwangunks. Sam is awaiting word on where he will continue his formal education in visual arts this fall.
As an artist, the beauty that exists in nature inspires me. In my landscapes I strive to capture a moment in time and share what I have experienced. My paintings begin forming in my mind as I am pulled into a moment of time. I am drawn to the quick changing light and colors of an evening sky. Capturing and sharing a mood or feeling, differently than a photograph does, motivates me. Painting is new to me this year and I find it to be the most satisfying. My medium of chose is acrylics, mixed with a variety of additives to achieve different effects. Before landscapes I mostly created pen and ink designs inspired from doodles.
