Allison Burke
Allison Burke is a talented artist who pulls from many sources to tell her story. She spins a visually stunning narrative with her vivid use of color and form, often utilizing prose in her pieces to complete the story. She hails from Westchester County and spends a great deal of time in the Hudson Valley, inspired by the beauty of the Catskills and surrounding area. She works with various media, watercolor, acrylics and pastels- pretty much anything she has available. She also loves photography, and has a great eye for capturing nature, which is one of the things that draws her to the Catskills. Allison came to art, or rather, art came to her at a very young age as a form of catharsis and as a way of connecting, processing, and understanding the world around her. The stories she tells in her pieces successfully convey their autobiographical nature. She has molded that into a career as an Therapeutic Art Instructor where she can assist and act as a conduit, specifically to the elderly and those suffering Alzheimer’s, as a way to empower and give new purpose and meaning at the end of life. Giving a voice- whether it’s by helping people reconnect with what has been lost or redefining identity altogether, is of the utmost importance and something she can relate to closely. The re-integrative healing powers of the creative process run deep and are reflected in both her personal and professional art.
