Edward Blume

Art is like breathing to me!I love to use different media and styles to express my subjects emotion that I see and feel! From pencil to pen, charcoals to oil pastels, from watercolors to acrylics and clay to wood with a mixture of most!

During my childhood years I began to notice something that certain people do throughout lives and across time eternal. This something called Art. Without a word art spoke of all and everything to me, and I wanted to be part of it. I wanted to tell my little story and share what I felt, what I saw, and what I heard from nature, from the streets I crossed, the subway cars I rode on, from the animals that appeared before me. So I began to walk around with my drawing pad and pencil to and from school sketching all we often glance at but take for granted. I’d run off to the museum and the Bronx Zoo on Wednesdays where I could get in free. The museums introduced me to the variety of expressions endlessly evolving. Impressionism and surrealism opened my senses in a whole new way. And animals revealed their own expressions and feelings to me, surrealistic at first but very real today. The experience of life’s enormous struggles and my brush with death gave me a chance to breathe this living in a new way. I learned to love life and all of its beauty. Art, more than ever, is the venue that helps me convey the message. While still possible, my joy is to know that, at the very least, a few people might see and understand my little message, the joy of having joined the eternal journey of Art.
