At 7 years of age, some 59 years ago, I dreamed of being an artist, and began drawing cartoons. After completing high school I attended New York Phoenix School of Design in NYC majoring in graphic/advertising design with a minor in photography. During this time I mentored with two photographers in NYC.
Graduating from N.Y.Phoenix School of Design in 1970 I continued my education in the arts, attending School of Visual Arts in NYC taking courses in computer animation when it was at its infancy. I attended the NikonSchool of photography in NYC in 1979 from coming in third in a Nikon photography contest.
I also have a degree in Computer Science from Rockland Community College. So in essence my left and right brains fight with each other.
My first camera, a Kodak Bantam, was given to me by my father when I was about 8 years of age. I was so fascinated at the creation of a photograph that I have never put a camera down. The camera became an extension of my vision and traveled with me wherever I went. I have worked with many alternate processes in the photographic field, creating bichromate paper and prints way back in 1981, working in the darkroom and using creative techniques to make photographic art.
I won photo contests from Seven-up in 1973,first place from a Minolta contest in 1975. First place in a number of photo exhibits at Ciba Geigy in Ardsley NY. My Composite Photograph Dancers melting into Paint is being published in a Photographic Annual.
Making a major decision to retire at 62 from my technical job at IBM, I made the decision to pursue my artistic side once again. Furthering my education in photography I completed courses at International Center of Photography in NYC from 2008-2010. I am a member of ICP as well as Roca (Rockland Center of the Arts) in Rockland County and GAGA (Garnerville Arts) in Garnerville NY, CAS Catskill Art Society, ASK Art Society of Kingston and a member of Piermont Flywheel Gallery a coop gallery in Piermont NY.
